After 15 years in their seven-room Wakefield, Mass., house, Dave and Jackie Piligian were exhausted with the landscaping, painting, and snow shoveling. Dave mused: We didn t want to spend all our time working. The Piligians began considering a move, and Brooksby, an Erickson Living community in Peabody, Mass., impressed them. You ve got a community to support you and the staff and medical options. It s an ideal place for growing older and having fun, Jackie says. Jackie s mother delayed moving out of her house of 63 years until age 91, only to succumb to illness a year later. You should come here when you re healthy enough to enjoy it, Jackie adds.

Priority steps

Last October, the couple joined Brooksby s priority list, securing them a place in line for the two-bedroom, Manchester-style apartment home they wanted and giving them access to Brooksby Personal Moving Consultant Laurie Phillips, with whom they had an instant bond, Jackie says. Phillips visited the couple to assess how their furniture would fit into their Brooksby apartment and introduced them to two real estate professionals from Brooksby s list of trusted vendors. The Piligians downsized and prepared their house to be shown before they left for their second home in Oregon. The day their house went on the market, the Piligians were out grocery shopping when they got a call. A buyer had made an offer that was over their asking price. Upon their return, the couple worked with Dot Harding of Brooksby s Custom Interiors to choose paint for their apartment walls and add marble countertops and wood floors. The Piligians used Brooksby-recommended movers for their March move. It would have taken me three weeks to do what they did in one day, Jackie says. Since their move, the Piligians have begun to meet people and take advantage of Brooksby s amenities. A former electrical engineer, Dave plans to volunteer in Brooksby s television studio. Jackie plans to become involved in knitting and quilting, trips to Boston, and Brooksby s fitness center. We love it here and we re looking forward to more things, Jackie says. We re so glad we moved when we did.
