In February, Mary Placanica decided to move to . target="_blank">Riderwood, an Erickson Living community in Silver Spring, Md. She had been living in a large four-bedroom house in Silver Spring, Md., and says the upkeep on the property was becoming a burden. I couldn t climb the stairs, Mary says. And I couldn t take care of a big house.

When Mary decided that moving to a smaller home at a community that offered her maintenance-free living was the right choice for her, she didn t have to go it alone. As a prospective Riderwood resident, she was able to take advantage of Erickson Realty and Moving Services, a free program through which new community members can access a suite of services from real estate agent referrals and moving company recommendations to help with floor planning and interior decorating. Riderwood Personal Moving Consultant Kimberly Schoeberlein worked with Mary from the start of her moving process to ensure that each step went smoothly. I met with Mrs. Placanica in her home after she attended an open house with her son, Schoeberlein says. We completed a floor plan to show that she could bring all the things she wanted to keep and I introduced her to a preferred real estate agent in her area to provide a market analysis and advice as to what she should consider doing before putting her house on the market. With the help of Erickson Living-recommended agent Tamara Kucik, Mary sold her house in just five days. Kucik says she recommended that Mary make some strategic renovations to secure a higher selling price. She got almost all of that money back because it went over the asking price, Kucik says. Mary moved into her new Riderwood apartment home in April, and she says the only thing that that went wrong that day was that it rained. Thanks to an experienced moving company that Schoeberlein recommended, packing, moving, and unpacking was a breeze. The moving crew was very good, Mary says. They didn t damage anything, and they even put everything away and hung everything up on the walls. A few months after her move, Mary is comfortably settled in her Riderwood apartment home. The unit features an extra-large bedroom and spacious kitchen, which she says give her plenty of space. Kim [Schoeberlein] came over and put tags on all the furniture I could bring from my house, Mary says. When I got over here, I was surprised how much room I had.
