City girl sheds stressful life for easy living

As a nursing care coordinator in New York City, Elsa Acosta held a demanding job. Her commute from a 1,700-square-foot, two-bedroom, townhouse-style condo in Staten Island, N.Y., made it even worse. So she rented a studio apartment in the city, where she stayed four to six days a week before returning home for days off. Her stressful life changed for the better when she retired and condensed her living space to one, one-bedroom apartment home at Cedar Crest, the Erickson Living community in Pompton Plains, N.J., just 30 minutes from the city. I had been eying [Cedar Crest] for about six or seven years. The reason I like it was the proximity to New York City, Elsa says. I can still visit the city easily. While moving can be stressful for many people, Elsa left stress behind, including during her moving process. Cedar Crest made sure of that.

Expert help for every step

By providing complimentary moving assistance through Erickson Realty and Moving Services, Cedar Crest took the weight off of Elsa s shoulders when it came to selling her condo, downsizing, and moving. It was superb help for me because they gave me a reputable real estate agent who helped me sell my condo, Elsa says. Additionally, Personal Moving Consultant Margaret Semezko visited Elsa in her condo to help her decide what to keep, what to toss, and what to buy to make her new apartment her new home. Margaret came to my house and helped me essentially downsize. It made a lot of difference in making the process easier, Elsa says. She gave me measurements and a floor plan [of the new apartment] and suggested where to put the furniture. It was a great help to me. Semezko recommended a moving company that moved Elsa from Staten Island to Cedar Crest this past June. Now, instead of caring for others, Elsa is focusing on herself body, mind, and spirit. She goes to the on-site fitness center five days a week and attends a weekly meditation class. She still visits the city through trips coordinated by the community s travel department. And she s joined a weekly sing-a-long. I love it here, says Elsa. It s a different lifestyle.
