Rather than sending over freshly baked cookies, community members at Ponds, an Erickson Living community in Ashburn, Va., recently welcomed One Loudoun, the county’s newest mixed-use downtown center, by raising their voices in song.

Community members at Ashby Ponds were invited to sing at One Loudoun’s inaugural Christmas tree lighting ceremony, which included a visit from Santa Claus.

The residents sang a variety of holiday carols including “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Frosty the Snowman,” and “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” among others. They performed a special rendition of “The Twelve Days of Christmas.”

The community also staffed the kids craft tent at the event, helping area children with holiday reindeer creations and coloring.

“I had a great time,” says Gayna Dunsmore, who, in addition to singing, performed the role of Rudolph as her neighbors joined her in singing the Christmas classic. “I love to be silly, especially if it provides enjoyment for someone else. All of us were excited to perform.”

Exciting partnership

Even before ground was broken on One Loudoun, developers made a concerted effort to meet with Ashby Ponds residents, keeping them updated on plans as they were approved.

“Ashby Ponds’ proximity to One Loudoun, and its variety of entertainment, shopping, and dining facilities is a great incentive for our residents,” says community member Al Beyer.

Once complete, One Loudoun will offer more than 700,000 square feet of retail, restaurant, and entertainment space, including The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, which opened last May. Unlike any other theater in the county, The Alamo provides wait service inside the theater.

One Loudoun will also be home to a ballpark for use by both the Loudoun Hounds baseball team and the Virginia Calvary FC team.

“This is an exciting time to live at Ashby Ponds,” says Ashby Ponds Executive Director David Gallagher. “In addition to our own expansion, including the upcoming opening of our continuing care neighborhood and Willow Crossing, our new residential community, One Loudoun provides numerous opportunities for our community members to enjoy the benefits of living in Loudoun County. We look forward to a long-lasting partnership.”

Gayna agrees. “It’s great to live so close to One Loudoun,” she says. “I can hardly wait for it to be finished.”
