Erickson Living is getting ready for the arrival of a new addition to its family. In February 2014, the nation-leading developer of continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) broke ground on Lantern Hill, a 540,000-square-foot community in New Providence, N.J.

The planned community, nearly 21 acres in all, will consist of five interconnected buildings, including 275 spacious independent living apartment homes and 85 continuing care residences offering assisted living, memory care, long-term care, and short-term rehabilitation. Here, residents will be able to enjoy a host of amenities such as a fitness center and indoor swimming pool, as well as a variety of services ranging from restaurants and housekeeping to social and recreational programs.

“We’re proud to be building our third community in New Jersey,” says Erickson Living CEO Alan Butler. “Lantern Hill will meet the needs of seniors in this area for desirable retirement living and expand Erickson Living’s portfolio to 18 campuses throughout the country.”

Destination of choice

Historically, northern New Jersey has demonstrated a strong demand for senior living. With the rapid growth of the senior population, New Providence is a prime location for the regional population of older adults.

According to the Blueprint for Healthy Aging in New Jersey—a report issued by the state’s Department of Health and Human Services—all of New Jersey’s counties have populations aged 60-plus years that experts project will increase a minimum of 35% by 2025.

“A retirement community in northwest Union County is a natural extension of Erickson Living’s commitment to serving the state of New Jersey,” says Chris Emmett, vice president of regional operations for Erickson Living. “Lantern Hill is a premier property, and we embrace the opportunity to serve those who will live and work at this distinctive community.”

Currently, Erickson Living anticipates that Lantern Hill will open in late 2015; the on-site sales office opened last month.
