Bright opportunities for a vibrant and secure retirement will soon come to New Providence, N.J., when Hill opens its doors in fall 2015.

A vibrant community itself, New Providence holds events and activities like a 5K race, farmers’ market, summer concerts, Independence Day celebration, street fair, and Christmas walk.

Lantern Hill will fit in well.

The name Lantern Hill pays homage to the region’s railroading history, while the community itself promises a future of independence and freedom.

From past to present

In 1888, the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad built the first New Providence railroad station, crossing Springfield Ave. In the early 1900s, the Murray Hill station opened a short distance west of the original station.

During this time, the lantern served as a beacon to weary travelers—a symbol of home or the prospect of adventure. Today, Lantern Hill serves as that same beacon to active retirees looking for more out of their retirement.

With well-appointed amenities and apartment homes, a home at Lantern Hill promises to be like no other. And it’s one for a lifetime. As a continuing care retirement community, Lantern Hill will offer the full continuum of health care—including short-term rehabilitation, long-term care, memory care, and assisted living—from day one.

A close-knit community of 275 apartment homes, from one-bedroom homes to two-bedroom, two-bath luxury accommodations, Lantern Hill offers the convenience of everything under one roof. With an amenity-rich clubhouse space, access to all-season dining, entertainment, and fitness isn’t just a creature comfort, it’s the lifestyle.

Indoor walkways will connect every building, ensuring a climate-controlled, weather-proof community.

Distinctive retirement living

Despite its humble name, Lantern Hill is anything but ordinary. Apartment homes feature bright, open floor plans with upscale, modern fixtures and stunning details that make each home a showplace.

“We’ve raised the bar with the design of Lantern Hill,” says Sales Counselor Kathy Banks.

Standard apartment finishes will include granite countertops, Armstrong wood cabinets, recessed and pendant lighting, ceramic tile, and wood floors.

But living at Lantern Hill includes more than the apartment home. It’s the whole community. Lantern Hill residents can expect amenities like a state-of-the-art fitness and aquatics center with indoor swimming pool; gourmet restaurants; music and classrooms; and an on-site medical center with professional, expert medical staff, to name a few.

Additional services include weekly light housekeeping and hospitality services.

“The amount of activities and socialization available at Lantern Hill goes far beyond what someone would have access to living in a house throughout their retirement,” says Banks. “Everything you need is at your fingertips, and with Lantern Hill’s prime location, you can venture into New York City, Atlantic City, or take a trip to Longwood Gardens any time you like. Our hospitality services can even plan your trip.”

New Providence is conveniently located just 15 miles west of Newark and approximately 28 miles from New York City. Two train stations are easily accessible, as is I-78, the Garden State Parkway, New Jersey Turnpike, and Newark Liberty International Airport.

Lantern Hill will offer transportation to many area locations and plan day trips for residents to visit local and more distant attractions.

Maintenance-free living

Aside from amenities and location, one of the main benefits of life at Lantern Hill is maintenance-free living. By providing 24/7 home maintenance, Lantern Hill removes unwanted burdens like home maintenance, upkeep, and financial strain.

“Imagine never having to fix a broken water heater again. Or never having to shovel snow or deal with a leak in your ceiling,” Banks says. “Or even hang a picture or replace a lightbulb. We have people for that.”

All utilities (except telephone), a flexible meal plan, home maintenance, and weekly light housekeeping are included in a fixed monthly service fee, making budgeting a breeze. One check, one easy budget to follow.

“Our goal is to make retirement easy and enjoyable—not more difficult,” says Banks. “By simplifying things like home maintenance and budgeting, people are free to pursue interests they’ve maybe put off earlier in life.”
