Lantern Hill, developed by Erickson Living, is on

Until now, people who have lived in the quaint, close-knit towns nestled in the Watchung Mountains have had to leave their beloved communities to find a continuing care retirement solution—one that would provide an active, independent lifestyle plus the peace of mind of additional care.

Hill, opening next fall in New Providence, N.J., will satisfy that need. It will bring 275 distinctive one- and two-bedroom homes to the area featuring bright, open-concept floor plans. Upscale, modern fixtures and stunning details will make each home a showplace.

Choices, choices, choices

Priority list members who reserve an apartment home have plenty of options to make their new apartment their home. “With more than 25 floor plans to choose from, Lantern Hill offers the perfect home for every preference and lifestyle,” says Kathy Banks, Lantern Hill’s sales counselor.

Those who reserve a home can select from five coordinating color palettes and textures for luxurious finishes like granite countertops, wood flooring, and ceramic tile that come standard with every home. Hardwood flooring stretches throughout each home, with carpeting only in the bedrooms and dens.

A few homes also feature electric fireplaces, which add a cozy, comforting touch. And stainless steel appliances are also standard.

Light and flow

In the open-space concept of every floor plan, whether one- or two-bedroom, the kitchen opens up to a light-filled dining and living room. “All apartments have those open floor plans, thus creating bright, luxurious surroundings,” says Banks.

Additionally, large bedrooms and over-sized windows optimize space and flow.

“Everyone I’ve met with has been pleased with the open design of our floor plans,” says Sales Associate Peggy Ferro.

Ferro says that although the community is now under construction, the sales center has lifelike illustrations of the floor plans as well as a full-size model living area, including kitchen, living, and dining rooms, to help people choose a floor plan and visualize their new home.

“We have such a beautiful sales center,” she says. “It makes everyone excited, and it’s a foreshadowing of what’s to come.”

Aside from stunning apartment homes, Lantern Hill promises a plethora of on-site amenities and services. A fitness center, three dining venues, indoor swimming pool, salon, marketplace, theater, and library will all be within walking distance from residents’ homes. They will also have access to a concierge, transportation, weekly housekeeping, pharmacy delivery and dry-cleaning service, and activities galore.

“By combining maintenance-free living with such a wealth of amenities, Lantern Hill residents will be able to fill their calendars with things they want to do, not errands and chores,” Ferro says.

Limited availability

The community is preparing to started taking apartment home reservations of floor plans and locations from priority list members.

Priority list membership is the only way to reserve a home at Lantern Hill. It’s easy to join; membership requires a refundable $1,000 deposit and a $150 per-person, nonrefundable application fee.

“With more than 300 people on the priority list and just 275 apartment homes, we suggest people join the priority list as soon as possible,” Banks says. “It’s the only way to ensure a home here. With this being such a unique and needed concept in this area, we don’t expect homes to last long.”

The sales team began accepting priority list memberships in April, and by the end of June, the list had reached 300. “That rapid growth shows just how needed this community is in our area,” says Banks, who has lived in Berkeley Heights and New Providence for 36 years.

“Lantern Hill will fill a need that we’ve had for a long time. It will be the perfect solution for people living in this area who want to stay in this area,” she says. “It mirrors the close-knit atmosphere of New Providence, Summit, and Berkeley Heights. Lantern Hill will fit in well here.”
