Erickson Living’s newest advertising campaign, including television and newspaper ads and a strong social media effort, is set to launch this month. Built around the concept of making a sound investment in retirement, the television commercial features Bernie Garrett, who lives at Linden Ponds, Erickson Living’s community in Hingham, Mass.

The producer of the commercial is Zach Cheney, manager of television production for Erickson Living. He says Garrett was a true natural in front of the camera. “We didn’t actually script this particular campaign in the traditional sense. We took a more documentary approach by asking Mr. Garrett questions and recording his responses. The end result is terrific because, clearly, Mr. Garrett knows quite a bit about making good investments.”

Crunching the numbers

After a long and successful career in accounting and finance, it was only natural for Garrett to make an equally sound financial decision when it came to retirement. Before moving to Linden Ponds, Garrett put all the numbers down on paper and compared them. On one side was Linden Ponds’ monthly maintenance fee, and on the other was a long list of costs Garrett and his wife Lorraine had been paying every month to live in their condo. “Once I started going into the numbers,” says Garrett, “it seemed like it was well worth coming to Linden Ponds, and I would define worth as not only financial but also quality of life.”

He continues, “Remember, it’s not just the condo fees and real estate taxes you’re comparing. Every time something needed to be fixed, I had to research plumbers or electricians to get the best price. That was a lot of time invested, and I still had to pay the bill. I don’t have to do that here. It’s all included. Then there’s a big savings on groceries. You don’t have to go out and shop, and you don’t have to spend all that time in the car. And of course, people who live in homes have snow plowing and lawn mowing. We don’t pay gym fees or lots of other things we used to pay for because everything is right here, and it’s all taken care of.

“Actually, it was a very easy decision to make.”
