More than a decade ago, Raymond and Susan Page sold their home near Rochester, N.Y., and headed south to be closer to their three “kids” and nine grandchildren in Maryland. This spring, when they decided to sell their Westminster home and move to Oak Crest, an Erickson Living community in Parkville, Md., their family was once again at the forefront of their minds.

“We grew tired of trying to find people to do repairs around the house, and we wanted to move now so that our children didn’t have the burden of making decisions for us in the future,” says Raymond, a retired school superintendent.

The active couple researched eight retirement communities in the Baltimore area before selecting Oak Crest.

‘Everything we wanted’

“Oak Crest had everything we wanted,” says Raymond. “But it was the people who won us over. The residents are great and the staff is really top rate.”

Personal Moving Consultant Ashley Ruth was one of the staff members who helped the Pages design a personalized move plan and prepare their house for sale.

“We worked closely with Ashley,” says Raymond. “She recommended a real estate agent and helped us determine exactly what would fit in our new apartment. We were moving from a 2,400-square-foot house, so we had a lot of downsizing to do. Overall, I think we did pretty well. We hired a professional mover, someone Oak Crest also recommended. They packed everything up for us and did a nice job.”

Although they are still settling in, they say they couldn’t be happier with their new home.

“Everything worked out just fine. We use the second bedroom as an office and guest room for our grandkids when they visit,” says Raymond. “They love going to the pool and feeding the ducks at the pond.  I joined a genealogy club, and Susan is planning on joining a bridge group. In the end, I think we moved at the right time and we certainly chose the best option.”
