Fox Run’s four-legged residents were the stars of the show this fall at the community’s annual Strut Your Mutt dog show and pet blessing. About 25 dogs, along with their resident and staff owners, participated in the show. Some of the breeds represented included poodle, terrier, and Maltese, making for one ridiculously adorable show!

As each dog and its owner were called, the dog strutted in a circle and completed some simple obstacles. Meanwhile, an emcee announced the dog’s name, its breed, and a fun fact about that breed.

Tia Maria is top dog

The top prize was awarded to ten-year-old Dachshund Tia Maria, who lives at Fox Run with her owner Eva Barnes. Eva says she and Tia Maria have been together since the puppy was just six months old. Tia Maria has a reputation for being a friendly and loving dog, making her a strong contender for first prize.

Residents Beth Conway, Bob Luther, and Marge Fountain all served as judges in the dog show. Other dogs also received accolades, as prizes were awarded in several categories such as “I Walk My Owner,” “Best Wag,” “Best Name,” “Cutest Couple,” “Even Cuter in Doggy Clothes,” and “Most Likely to Chase the Mailman.” Every dog that claimed a prize at the show took home homemade dog biscuits from Three Dog Bakery in Plymouth, Mich., “top dog” trophies, and doggy tug toys.

Even the dogs that didn’t win a prize were rewarded with new dog toys for coming out and strutting their stuff. And all dogs had their portraits taken next to the bright red fire hydrant on Fox Run’s campus. To wrap up the fun-filled event, retired pastor Vic Mesenbring was on hand to give a blessing over all of Fox Run’s cherished furry friends in attendance that day.
