A little over a year ago, Tom and Robin Collins decided they wanted to sell their Shelby Township, Mich., house to move to Fox Run, an Erickson Living community in Novi, Mich. The couple knew they wanted to live at Fox Run because they had been visiting relatives who lived there for a few years.

“We liked the concept of worry-free living, and also, the idea of a ‘home for life’ was attractive to us,” Tom says. “The amount of activities that are going on here, the social environment, the knowledge and the assurance—even if your lightbulb burns out, they will come and fix it—gives us peace of mind.”

When the time came to clear out the basement, sell their house, and move to Fox Run, Tom and Robin didn’t have to go it alone. As prospective Fox Run residents, they were able to take advantage of Erickson Realty and Moving Services, a complimentary program through which new community members can access a suite of services, from real estate agent referrals and moving company recommendations to help with floor planning and interior decorating. They worked directly with Mary Wolfe, a personal moving consultant at Fox Run, who helped them navigate every step of the process.

Tapping into an expert team

Wolfe connected Tom and Robin with a real estate agent who had helped other Fox Run residents to sell their houses. They accepted an offer about two weeks after putting their house on the market. Robin says that Fox Run’s custom interiors staff measured their furniture to help her figure out which furniture to bring to their new home.

“That allowed me to be able to arrange the furniture before we even moved in, so I just handed the arrangement to the movers so they could place furniture where we wanted it,” Robin says.

Wolfe also referred Tom and Robin to a moving company that handles many residents’ moves. Tom says moving day went off without a hitch.

“We didn’t want to cause any concern for our two sons that they would have to do a lot of the moving,” Tom says. “With the help of the movers, we took care of the whole move and it went very smoothly.”
