The way your home is decorated goes a long way in making it feel truly like a home and not just a house, condo, or apartment. Interior design is a way to put your unique stamp on your space so that everyone who enters your home gets a sense of who you are.

At Ponds, an Erickson Living community in Hingham, Mass., selecting from among several different apartment home styles is just the first step in creating a comfortable, customized home.

Residents also have the opportunity for a complimentary consultation with an interior design team that can help with everything from moving a wall to selecting draperies.

Fresh face

Donna Marcella recently became the custom interiors coordinator at Linden Ponds. She had previously worked at the community in human resources and decided to leverage her background in the construction industry to help Linden Ponds residents create beautiful homes.

Marcella has owned a successful construction company with her husband for the last 15 years. She holds a construction supervisors license and has a certificate in interior design and decorating. She describes her design aesthetic as “traditional.”

“I like a comfortable, homey, and unfussy feel,” she says. “Less is more.”

Marcella handles planning and quoting for projects to make sure they stay within residents’ budgets.

She contracts many services to preferred vendors to ensure high quality of craftsmanship.

When projects are completed, she follows up with residents to make sure their design specifications have been met and that they are happy with the end result.

“I am responsible for designing spaces inside apartment homes here at Linden Ponds,” Marcella says. “I work with residents to renovate their spaces to meet their standards.”

Create the ideal dwelling

Every resident who moves to Linden Ponds has the option to choose custom upgrades for their flooring, window treatments, paint colors, lighting, fixtures, crown molding, cabinets, and built-ins.

Marcella is on hand to help residents make selections and create a cohesive look throughout their apartment home.

She says that some of the most common upgrades are for hardwood flooring and granite or Corian countertops. On more complex projects, Marcella has assisted residents who wanted to move walls to create a unique floor plan or install custom built-ins for a stately, timeless look.

She says her approach to helping residents decorate their homes is collaborative. “It’s important to be patient and ask about their personal preferences,” she says. “I also ask what their past homes were like, the kind of furniture they had, as well as their preferred style and colors.”
