New Tallgrass Creek residents Mary Ann and Gil Collins began their search for a retirement community several years before they were ready to move.

“We didn’t want to make a mistake,” says Gil. “So we took our time and looked at a lot of different communities.”

Their search took them around the entire Kansas City area, but they kept returning to Tallgrass Creek in Overland Park, Kans.

“We picked up on the upbeat vibe here immediately,” says Mary Ann. “It didn’t matter when we showed up. People were always active and busy.”

The Collinses put a deposit down at Tallgrass Creek, and when Sales Counselor Judy Baxter called with the news that Meadowlark Terrace, the community’s new residence building, was under construction, they decided it was time. With Baxter’s help, the couple reserved the Faulkner-style apartment home with its spacious living room, bedroom, kitchen with granite countertops, and sunny view of the courtyard.

Experts on hand

The couple worked with Erickson Living-recommended real estate agents and, in two days, sold the Overland Park, Kans., house they had lived in for 17 years. They also used a recommended moving company and found them to be careful and timely.

Gil, an avid golfer, is well-known at Oakwood Country Club in Kansas City, Mo., where he was the golf superintendent for 31 years. He is also a self-taught painter, which keeps him busy during the winter months.

Mary Ann owned her own business selling pewterware in Kansas City, Mo., for 15 years and continued working in retailing until she retired. She is an enthusiastic swimmer and typically swims or practices water aerobics three times a week in Tallgrass Creek’s indoor pool.

The Collinses both agree their search for a retirement community ended exactly as it should. Their apartment even overlooks one of Gil’s favorite places in the community, the putting green.

“The Tallgrass Creek sales team made it so much easier for us,” says Mary Ann. “To a person, they were always so helpful and just wonderful to work with.”
