After attending dozens of sales luncheons, moving-related seminars, and exclusive priority list events at , Erickson Living’s retirement community in Delaware County, Pa., Jim and Nancy Simpson felt well-prepared to downsize and move from their suburban Wilmington, Del., home.

While Jim, a DuPont retiree, sold real estate for ten years, he gained new insights at each seminar.

“The speakers gave us guidance so we knew what not to sell,” he says. “You have to determine if the thing you’ve saved still has value that merits paying for storage to continue saving it.”

In April 2014, the Simpsons scheduled a home visit with Suzanne McAllister, Maris Grove’s personal moving consultant, and by then, their good friend.

Planning to move later that year, “We took advantage of everything Suzy has to offer,” says Jim.

McAllister’s services, which include home visits, ongoing phone and e-mail contact, and referrals to preferred real estate and moving-related vendors, are complimentary to priority list members.

The Simpsons used one of her referrals for work on their cinder block basement walls and another to clean the grout in their shower. “Suzy’s list had the vendors that I really needed,” says Jim.

And because they used a preferred real estate agent, Erickson Living’s Move On Us program reimbursed $2,000 of their moving costs.

To speed their apartment search, Jim expanded their desired floor styles from one to ten, which expanded the number of apartment choices from 17 to 245.

When he requested floor plans in a ¼-inch-to-1-inch-scale for furniture placement, McAllister overnighted all ten styles and included the square footage and number of homes available for each.

‘A lot of comfort’

“[Even on small matters], she always responded immediately to my need for information,” Jim says. “Her personal real estate experience, along with her pleasing manner, really gives a prospective resident a lot of comfort.”

They waited just two months for the largest floor style on their list and moved in last December.
