Haven Benoit knows how it feels to pull boxes of holiday decorations out of the attic.

“We all have decorations stashed away that we pull out at certain times of the year,” says Benoit, personal moving consultant at Eagle’s Trace, the Erickson Living community in West Houston. “The key to downsizing holiday décor is to sort through them while they’re out, instead of putting them back in the attic to deal with next year.”

As personal moving consultant, Benoit offers complimentary coordination of all realty and moving needs, including downsizing, home staging, packing, and selection of real estate professionals.

“Moving can be broken down into manageable steps,” says Benoit. “I’m here to help.”

Customized moving plan

Benoit offers free in-home visits with prospective residents who’ve expressed an interest in moving to Eagle’s Trace.

“During the home visit, I learn the specific needs in that situation, whether it’s help with downsizing or planning an estate sale,” says Benoit.

For those who don’t know how to begin downsizing, Benoit says it’s easiest to start by identifying the furniture and accessories you’ll bring with you to your new apartment. From there, you can begin to sort through what’s left.

“The holidays are a great time to begin downsizing,” says Benoit. “When the decorations are out, you can ask family members if there is anything they would like to have—maybe a special ornament or keepsake.”

Benoit also helps prospective residents look at their furniture with a fresh set of eyes, finding ways to repurpose treasured pieces.

“I worked with one woman who wanted to keep a table her father made, but she wasn’t sure she’d have room for it in her apartment,” says Benoit. “I suggested she use it as a console for her television, and it worked perfectly in the new space.”

Benoit connects prospective residents with a vast network of real estate professionals through Erickson Realty and Moving Services. As a licensed real estate agent herself, Benoit knows the value of having an experienced team working on your behalf.

“I can recommend real estate agents with proven track records,” says Benoit. “These are professionals who understand the market. They know which updates, if any, need to be completed prior to listing the home, and they can provide a competitive market analysis to help list the home for the right price.

New apartments at Eagle’s Trace

Benoit’s calendar is busier than ever with the construction of Amarillo Terrace, the newest residence building at Eagle’s Trace. Amarillo Terrace is scheduled to open in fall 2016, adding 108 independent living apartments to the community.

“I’m currently making home visits to future residents who have reserved apartments in Amarillo Terrace,” says Benoit. “It’s a great time to start downsizing because they have the benefit of nearly a year to go through the process.”
