Selling your house doesn’t have to be stressful. When you have the right professionals helping you, the sale of a house can be a rewarding—and profitable—experience. That is what Dr. Genevieve Knight discovered last year when she moved to Riderwood, an Erickson Living community in Silver Spring, Md.

“The process was easy,” Genevieve says. “The real estate agent in charge was well-trained and understood how to talk to people.”

The right team on board

As a prospective Riderwood resident, Genevieve had access to Erickson Realty and Moving Services, a special program that offers complimentary coordination of all realty and moving needs, including downsizing, home staging, packing, and selection of a real estate professional.

Genevieve’s personal moving consultant gave her referrals for experienced real estate professionals who had successfully sold houses for other Riderwood residents. She selected Bob Riley, and he wasted no time getting her Columbia, Md., house sold.

“By 8 p.m. the night I called him, he was at my door with an analysis of the neighborhood and all the houses that had recently sold,” Genevieve says. “He was a wonderful person to work with.”

Riley helped Genevieve hire reputable contractors to do some work on the house, which definitely enticed buyers. Genevieve says she received a few nibbles on the first day her house was on the market, and by the second day, she had two offers.

“The house was sold in two days for more than the asking price,” she says.

Genevieve wasn’t on her own once her house was sold. Through the Erickson Realty and Moving Services program, she was connected with vendors to help with downsizing, packing and moving. A retired mathematician who worked for the Department of Defense and the Department of Education, and a former mathematics professor at Hampton University, Genevieve had a great number of books that she didn’t necessarily want to bring to her new home at Riderwood. Her personal moving consultant connected her with Let’s Move, a local senior move management company.

“I had enough books to create a new library,” she says. “The Let’s Move people were very useful. They knew about libraries that would want them, so they helped me box them up and donate them.”

At Riderwood,  Genevieve selected a two-bedroom, one-bath apartment home with an open living and dining room. On her moving day, an Erickson Living-recommended moving company handled the entire process.

“I went to get a soda, and when I came and looked around, everything was unpacked, even all of the kitchen stuff,” Genevieve says.
