For seven years prior to their February 2015 move to Ashby Ponds, Anne and Warren Braham enjoyed riverfront living in the Northern Neck of Virginia, on the western shore of the Potomac River.

Despite the beauty of the area, the couple could not ignore the call to return home to Loudoun County where they had lived for more than 30 years.

“Our two daughters and seven grandchildren live in the area and we knew that’s where we wanted to be,” says Anne. “We chose Ashby Ponds because not only would we be closer to family, but because it’s a lovely place to live with good medical facilities and extended care. These were big selling points for us.”

As members of the Ashby Ponds priority list, the couple attended a number of members-only events, including a luncheon where they met Personal Moving Consultant Elizabeth McCumiskey.

‘Great advice’

“Once we made the decision to move, we contacted Elizabeth right away to help us start the move process,” says Anne. “She was invaluable. At the time we did not know how long we would have to wait for the apartment home we wanted. Elizabeth suggested we begin downsizing right away. That was great advice.”

When the sought-after two-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bath Raleigh-style apartment home became available, Elizabeth visited the couple in their house to help them decide what pieces of furniture would be best in their new home.

“She placed everything on a floor plan mock-up to see how it would all fit,” says Anne.

Elizabeth also provided the couple with the names of a recommended real estate agent and moving company familiar with helping people move to Ashby Ponds.

“All the help we received was excellent,” says Anne. “And Elizabeth was my rock through the entire process. No matter the question, she had an answer for everything. She was also a big help in keeping us calm as the move-in date got close.”

Now, approaching their one-year anniversary at Ashby Ponds, Warren and Anne couldn’t be happier with their decision.

“We have made wonderful friends and continue to meet new residents as they move in,” says Anne. “Anyone considering moving to Ashby Ponds should talk with Elizabeth as soon as possible and listen to her advice.”
