“I’m a decisive person,” says June Fuhrman, and I knew this was the right thing to do for me.”

She means her decision to move to Devonshire at PGA National, Erickson Living’s retirement community in Palm Beach Gardens.

Last August, June moved to a 1,979 square-foot, two-bedroom, Oxford-style apartment home that includes a den, a balcony, and a terrace.

After June was widowed early last year, she felt overwhelmed with the responsibilities of maintaining her large four-bedroom house in Breakers West.

She’d heard about Devonshire and requested more information. Later, she accepted a sales luncheon invitation and asked one of her Breakers West neighbors to come along.

Devonshire sits on 26 tropical acres and comprises three residence buildings connected internally to a central clubhouse.

Its clubhouse and community space, which received major renovations just last year, present a gracious and sophisticated welcome to visitors.

The luncheon highlighted Devonshire’s five-star cuisine and included some apartment tours. Devonshire features a variety of over 20 different floor plan styles and offers the largest independent living apartment homes in southeast Florida.

June’s friend, who had no intention of moving, was so taken with what she saw that she reserved her desired apartment that very day and moved in just ahead of June.

The perfect fit

June loves her second-floor view of Devonshire’s outdoor pool framed by palm trees and lush greenery. “I feel like I’m living in a resort,” she says.

And her floor plan provides a wonderful layout for her furniture.

Its long entryway makes an ideal location to display some of her large paintings. Wicker chairs from her previous home sit companionably on her balcony.

And June’s spacious great room is open and airy, the perfect canvas for her understated and elegant furnishings.

Before she moved, her master bathroom underwent a major makeover: A large shower replaced the previous bathtub. And both bathrooms received June’s choices of new finishes.

Even Devonshire’s closets are impressive. June’s include a large entrance hall closet, double walk-in closets in her bedroom, an enormous guest room closet, a kitchen pantry, and a storage room just outside her apartment door.

The den is her cozy spot to watch TV or do paperwork.

“Devonshire has made my life easier because everything is here,” she says. June golfs at PGA, plays cards and games in the clubhouse, and walks her dog.

Residents welcomed her in so warmly and included her so often in their dinner plans that June recently hosted two post-holiday cocktail parties to reciprocate.

She also extends Devonshire’s hospitality to her Breakers West friends by inviting them to meals in its five clubhouse restaurants.

One friend has already moved in. Some others are thinking about it.
