Rosemary and Henry Siegel’s move from Media, Pa., to Maris Grove, Erickson Living’s retirement community nearby in Delaware County, was nearly stress-free.

Through the Erickson Realty and Moving Services program, Maris Grove Personal Moving Consultant Suzanne McAllister provides complimentary coordination of all realty and moving needs, including downsizing, home staging, packing, and selection of a real estate professional.

When McAllister paid the Siegels a home visit, “She gave me a reality check,” says Rosemary. “Over the years, everything accumulates and you don’t even notice it. When you move, you have to realize you don’t need it all.”

Rosemary didn’t want the hassle of downsizing from their home of 28 years, so she handed that chore to a senior move manager from McAllister’s list of preferred vendors.

Besides coordinating the Siegels’ downsizing, Survival Solutions’ staff packed their belongings, then unpacked and put everything away on moving day.

“You couldn’t ask for anything more,” Rosemary says.

Because the couple also used a preferred real estate agent, they were reimbursed up to $2,000 of their moving expenses. “I recognized a lot of [McAllister’s] names,” says Rosemary. “They were the people I’d have chosen anyway.”

Move, then sell

Since the Siegels moved before they marketed their house, they avoided the hassle of keeping it constantly ready to show. And they moved on their schedule instead of a buyer’s.

The Maris Grove advantage continued after the Siegels and their two cats settled into Rosemary’s dream apartment home, a spacious floor plan with his and her bedrooms and a bay window.

“What Maris Grove gives you is an amazing thing,” she says. “If they don’t have an answer to your question, they’ll get it for you. Call in the morning and they’ll have it in the afternoon. Call in the evening and they’ll have it the next morning.”

When Rosemary called with an ever-so-minor question about a bathroom fixture, the maintenance team showed up at her door immediately to respond.

Rosemary has jumped enthusiastically into campus life. She quickly joined the line dancing, walking, and theater groups. And she works out at the fitness center almost daily.

“Everything is right on campus,” she says. “That’s what I wanted, and that’s what I like about Maris Grove.”
