Tired of taking care of a large yard and fearing unpredictable home repairs and maintenance, Ron and Linda Torezan decided to move from their single-family house in Annandale, Va., to Greenspring, an Erickson Living community in Springfield, Va.

“It all happened very quickly,” says Ron. “I usually suggest taking your time when it comes to most matters, but in this case, it all worked out in the best way.”

Last fall, the Torezans joined the priority list and selected their favorite apartment home model. At the same time, they were introduced to Greenspring Personal Moving Consultant Anna Greves.

“Anna visited us in our house and was a great spokesperson for the whole moving process,” says Ron. “She looked at our house carefully and said we were good to go. She then gave us a list of recommended real estate agents, all of whom have helped people moving to Greenspring. We selected an agent who was very helpful and personable.”

Working with experts

With their house market-ready, the Torezans put their faith in their real estate agent and had an offer, for the full asking price, the first day on the market. Three days later, they had a signed contract.

No longer worrying about the sale of their house, the Torezans then turned to Greves for recommendations on movers, packers, and options for selling the items in their house that they no longer needed.

“I consider it all part of the moving package,” says Ron. “Anna gave us a great list to chose from and everything went very smoothly. We used the movers as well as a woman who sold the items we no longer needed at auction.”

One month after putting their house on the market, the couple moved into their new two-bedroom, two-bathroom Kingston-style home at Greenspring.

“We use the second bedroom as an office and purchased a sofa bed for when we host overnight guests,” says Ron. “It has worked out very nicely.”

Since joining the Greenspring community, the couple enjoys meeting new friends and exploring the many clubs and activities. Ron continues to volunteer at the Smithsonian’s Air and Space Museum and the American Art/National Portrait Gallery and has reserved a campus garden plot so he can grow tomatoes. Linda volunteers at Haven of Northern Virginia and recently joined pottery and weaving classes.

“We are very happy with our decision to move,” says Ron. “Thanks to Anna, we were able to move with little stress.”
