Elaine and Henry Nydam aren’t novices when it comes to moving. Throughout their married life they’ve lived in Clifton and Point Pleasant Beach, N.J., and Florida. But when they made their latest move from Point Pleasant Beach to Cedar Crest, an Erickson Living community in Pompton Plains, they discovered a moving secret they wished they’d had sooner.

“We had never had our furniture plan done before. It made things much less stressful,” Elaine says.

She’s referring to a furniture plan by Cedar Crest Personal Moving Consultant Anne Connor, who provides not only furniture plans but much more. Each Erickson Living community has its own local personal moving consultant who provides complimentary coordination of all realty and moving needs, including downsizing, home staging, packing, and selection of a real estate professional.

Tools of the trade

Connor meets with prospective residents in their home, armed with a magnetic floor plan of their new apartment. She tours the home and sees which existing furniture pieces they want to bring with them to their new home. Then she measures them out and places the to-scale pieces on the magnetic floor plan.

“She was able to determine what would actually fit [in our new home],” Elaine says.

She and Henry met with Connor before putting their house on the market, then Connor stayed in touch with them throughout the selling and moving process to ensure everything was going smoothly and on schedule.

“It is never too soon to create a plan of action,” says Connor. “When I meet with you in your home, I can assist you with downsizing and discuss my vetted, top-producing, preferred real estate agents to refer to you.”

Connor says it’s all very informal—no need to tidy up before her arrival. And she leaves a list of next steps and vendor resources’ contact information so her clients feel prepared and at ease with the moving process.

Overall, says Elaine, “It was a very positive experience. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. I would recommend to anyone to move in here.”
