When Ron Streeper decided to move from Huntingdon Valley, Pa., to Ann’s Choice, Erickson Living’s retirement community in Bucks County, Pa., he expected a long wait for his chosen floor plan to become available and ample time to downsize from a 60-year accumulation of belongings.

But immediately after Ann’s Choice Personal Moving Consultant Colleen Rosica had completed a furniture layout for Ron’s desired Ellicott-style apartment home, she told him a larger, one-bedroom Dawson floor plan had become available.

Ron toured it and liked its patio, courtyard view, and eat-in kitchen. And its size would better accommodate his large furniture. He reserved it and, with his children’s help, immediately began to downsize.

He also used Erickson Realty and Moving Services, a special program through which Rosica provides complimentary coordination of all realty and moving needs, including downsizing, home staging, packing, and selection of a real estate professional.

She created several furniture layouts to help Ron decide what furniture to bring.

Team approach

Ron listed his large three-bedroom house with one of Rosica’s preferred agents and immediately received two full-price offers; people who use a preferred agent are reimbursed up to $2,000 of their moving expenses.

He used a recommended appraiser and eBay expert to sell things like his Hummel collection, silverware, and Lenox china.

Ron says that the entire Ann’s Choice sales staff assisted him every step of the way. Sales Associate Michele Shupak-Finegan even interceded with his cable company to arrange his TV package.

Right at home

Ron made friends as soon as he moved to Ann’s Choice. He belongs to an informal breakfast group that eats in the campus café.

He attends concerts and lectures in the campus performing arts center.

With the Ann’s Choice travel group, he went on an overnight trip to Delaware’s Dover Downs Hotel and Casino.

This spring, he’s playing tennis on the campus courts and plans to join Ann’s Choice’s golf groups.

Ron’s move last November meant he wasn’t home alone in Huntingdon Valley during the blizzard of this past January. At Ann’s Choice, activities went on as usual and the grounds crew tackled the snow.

“I’m happy I moved,” Ron says. “I should have done it ten years ago.”
