Arthur and Beverly Shepard used resources available through Erickson Realty and Moving Services to help them sell their home in Natick, Mass., and move to Brooksby Village.

Arthur and Beverly Shepard were acquainted with Brooksby Village long before they considered a move to the Peabody community.

“Bev’s aunt lives at Brooksby, so we visited her at the community many times before we actually thought about moving to Brooksby ourselves,” says Arthur. “We joined the priority list in November 2014, thinking it might be a good move in the future.”

The couple put down a fully refundable $1,000 deposit to reserve their place in line for the apartment home of their choice. As priority list members, Arthur and Beverly took advantage of the resources available through Erickson Realty and Moving Services. They attended Brooksby’s Lunch and Learn seminars organized by Personal Moving Consultant Laurie Phillips. The four-part series covers a different moving-related topic each month.

“Laurie’s guidance was very helpful,” says Beverly. “She gave us an idea of what to expect throughout the moving process.”

Phillips offers complimentary coordination of moving services, including referrals to preferred real estate agents and moving companies.

Inspired by HGTV

Beverly, a fan of the Home and Garden Television (HGTV) network, initiated a few home improvement projects to get their house ready for the market.

“We lived in our home in Natick for 51 years,” says Beverly. “It was time for a few updates.”

The couple hired contractors to replace carpet with wood floors, remove wallpaper, paint the exterior of the home, and replace the driveway.

Seamless transition

In April 2015, Phillips called to tell Arthur and Beverly about three available apartments. The couple toured all three and chose a two-bedroom, two-bath, Kingston-style apartment with a balcony.

“Everything moved quickly after we chose the apartment,” says Arthur. “Laurie recommended a real estate agent in our area, and we listed our home on June 1. We had one offer that day and three more offers the next day. We ended up selling our home for $25,000 more than our asking price, and the buyers waived the home inspection.”

Arthur and Beverly moved to Brooksby on July 16, 2015.

“We were very pleased with the assistance we received through Laurie and her team of professionals,” says Arthur. “Everything went as planned.”
