Lantern Hill’s residence buildings are a beautiful mix of colors and textures.

Bright opportunities for a vibrant and secure retirement came to light at the end of June 2016 as the first community members unlocked the doors to their new homes at Lantern Hill.

Those who had joined the priority list and reserved an apartment home at the New Providence, N.J., Erickson Living community, will begin moving in from the end of June through October.

From past to present

In 1888, the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad built the first New Providence railroad station, crossing Springfield Ave. In the early 1900s, the Murray Hill station opened a short distance west of the original station.

During this time, the lantern served as a beacon to weary travelers—a symbol of home or the prospect of adventure. Today, Lantern Hill serves as that same beacon to active retirees looking for more out of their retirement.

With well-appointed amenities and apartment homes, a home at Lantern Hill promises to be like no other. And it’s one for a lifetime. As a continuing care retirement community, Lantern Hill offers the full continuum of health care—including short-term rehabilitation, long-term care, memory care, and assisted living.

A close-knit community of just 275 apartment homes, from one-bedroom homes to two-bedroom, two-bath luxury accommodations, Lantern Hill offers the convenience of everything under one roof. With an amenity-rich clubhouse integrated with beautiful apartment homes, residents will have all-season access to dining, entertainment, and fitness, just steps away from their front doors.

In June 2016, Lantern Hill opened 161 completed apartment homes, which sold out in just ten weeks. Walkways will connect every building, ensuring climate-controlled, weatherproof comfort and convenience.

Lantern Hill is anything but ordinary. Apartment homes feature bright, open floor plans with upscale, modern fixtures and stunning details that make each home a showplace.

Standard apartment finishes will include granite countertops, recessed and pendant lighting, modern hardware, custom paint, and crown molding.

But living at Lantern Hill includes more than the apartment home. It’s the whole community. Amenities like a state-of-the-art fitness and aquatics center with indoor swimming pool, three gourmet restaurants, library and reading room, and an on-site medical center with a highly respected medical staff from Summit Medical Group, to name a few.

Additional services include weekly housekeeping, concierge services for one-stop problem resolution, and secure underground parking for every resident apartment home. All apartments and exterior doors are equipped with secure electronic door locks.

“I think it’s time to be taken care of, less shopping, less cooking. I love the kitchen but I don’t love it as much now. It will be an easier life here than your own home,” says Carole Thau.

She and her husband Paul will move from Berkeley Heights in July. “This location is excellent for us because it enables us to continue with our activities locally in New Providence and adjacent communities such as Westfield,” says Paul.

The best location

New Providence is conveniently located just 15 miles west of Newark and approximately 28 miles from New York City. Two train stations are easily accessible, as is I-78, the Garden State Parkway, New Jersey Turnpike, and Newark Liberty International Airport.

“Lantern Hill is a unique CCRC,” says Carole. “We were looking for a place that had nice amenities, with an apartment that would suit our lifestyle in terms of size, and the fact that they have intermediate care and, eventually, if you needed it, [extended] care.”

Maintenance-free living

Aside from amenities, location, and continuing care, one of the main benefits of life at Lantern Hill is maintenance-free living.

All utilities, a flexible meal plan, home maintenance, and weekly housekeeping are included in an affordable fixed monthly service package, making budgeting a breeze. The monthly service package also includes secure Wi Fi, and each apartment home has ready access to the Internet.

“It’s comforting knowing that everything at Lantern Hill is included—if I have a leak in the plumbing, I don’t have to call the plumber. I would call the maintenance people at Lantern Hill. If I had another problem with electricity or lights or fixtures or something, I don’t have to do it,” says Carole. “Paul generally does not do that type of thing. We’d have to call an electrician. Here everything is on premises and is taken care of.”
