Novi, Mich., Mayor Bob Gatt presents the Spirit of Giving award to Fox Run resident Doreen Poupard.

Doreen Poupard, a Fox Run resident and former Novi City Council member, received the Spirit of Giving award from Novi Mayor Bob Gatt. The award is given to an individual or business that truly embodies the sense of kindness and giving. Doreen was recognized for her kindness, professionalism, community involvement, and commitment to the city of Novi, Mich.

“I would like to personally recognize an individual who goes above and beyond the walls of her community for the betterment of our community each and every day,” Gatt said when he presented the award in May. “Doreen has been a shining example of a true community partner, ambassador, and friend.”

Leadership and community involvement have long been a big part of Doreen’s life. She served as the assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction for the Ann Arbor Public School District 1985–1999.

She has a Ph.D. in instruction and curriculum from the University of Michigan. She also served the Girl Scouts of the Huron Valley Council in a variety of positions for 17 years, and she volunteered for Arbor Hospice for six years.

In her retirement, Doreen has continued to play an active role in her community. In addition to serving on the Novi City Council, she has taken on leadership roles at Fox Run, the Erickson Living community in Novi. She previously headed the political awareness committee and was elected to serve as the resident director on Fox Run’s board of directors.
