Not only does Maris Grove, Erickson Living’s retirement community in Delaware County, Pa., provide its residents a carefree, maintenance-free lifestyle, its sales staff makes moving to the community nearly stress-free.

Personal Moving Consultant Suzanne McAllister guides prospective residents throug their move and provides referrals to a wide variety of preferred vendors. Her referrals range from downsizers and move managers to real estate agents and moving companies.

“Suzy was extremely helpful and so pleasant,” says Stan Slossburg. “She always had an answer to our questions.”

Stan and Selma Slossburg first visited Maris Grove in 2009. As they drove past it whenever they returned home to northeast Philadelphia from their son’s house in West Chester, Selma would turn to Stan and say, “If we lived here, we’d be home now.”

In 2013, after selecting an apartment style, the couple scheduled a home visit from McAllister. She created a floor plan that showed how their furniture would fit in the apartment style they’d chosen—a two-bedroom, two-bath home with a patio.

Two-phase move

Her assistance proved doubly helpful because the Slossburgs moved twice, first in 2014 from their Philadelphia condominium to their beach house in Margate at the Jersey Shore, and then from Margate to Maris Grove in 2015.

For their first move, they used an Erickson Living-preferred real estate agent, a preferred moving company, and Survival Essentials, a preferred move manager.

Stan and Selma had downsized early because of what they’d learned at Maris Grove’s moving seminars.

But they greatly simplified their move by using Survival Essentials to continue the sorting, selling, and donating. The company also packed for them; some boxes went to Margate while others were put in storage.

When the Slossburgs moved from Margate to Maris Grove, Survival Essentials again did the packing and unpacking.

The movers conveyed the Slossburgs’ stored furnishings to their beach house, then moved things from the beach house to Maris Grove. They delivered the couple’s chrome and glass dining room table, which had required special packing, in perfect condition.

By dinnertime, the Slossburgs’ furnishings were in place, the beds were made, and every packing box was gone.

“Our move went so smoothly, it was almost scary,” says Stan. “There were no hassles about anything.”
