Here are a few tips to consider when creating your surroundings:

  • Downsize and declutter the possessions that you no longer use or want. Often, we hold on to things because we’ve always had them. They’re familiar. Pause to take stock of the items that you use every day and plan on moving those items to your new home.

There are many donation sites that would welcome the opportunity to repurpose your unwanted belongings and pass them on to people who need them.

  • Surround yourself with your favorite treasures. Imagine your new home with your most prized possessions and the joy that those things bring you.

As senior move managers, we have a favorite saying from nineteenth-century designer William Morris: “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.”

  • Rightsize your space. That is, make each room functional to accommodate your current lifestyle. For example, do you need that big office desk when a small computer table may be suitable for your laptop? Do you sleep on the uncomfortable sleep sofa?
  • Organize your new space so that items are easily stored and readily accessible. Ensure that items in cabinets and on shelves are within arm’s reach. Have systems in place to keep paperwork and mail organized and current.
  • Choose a location that offers plenty of natural light as well as opportunities for soft lighting so you can bring your favorite lamps.

Remember, you can create a new home that offers you comfort and easy living. Erickson Living has the ideal space for you, and your personal moving consultant will help you every step of the way.
