Mary Ann Casele and her cat both enjoy living at Ann’s Choice, the Erickson Living community in Bucks County, Pa.

When Mary Ann Casele decided to move from the Phoenixville area of Montgomery County, Pa., to Ann’s Choice, Erickson Living’s retirement community in adjacent Bucks County, she took advantage of services from the community’s personal moving consultant, Colleen Rosica.

Rosica’s services are available to members of the Ann’s Choice priority list.

The priority list, comprised of people who plan to move to an Erickson Living community, allows prospective residents to reserve their place in line for the apartment home of their choice. All it takes to join is a fully refundable $1,000 deposit and a $150-per-person nonrefundable application fee.

When Rosica visited Mary Ann’s house and measured her furniture, Mary Ann learned that her king-size bed was too large for the apartment style she’d chosen. She appreciated knowing it early on.

Home visit from the expert

“Most helpful to me was Colleen’s second visit,” she says. Rosica brought a floor plan and a magnetic board with furniture shapes to help arrange Mary Ann’s furniture for a perfect fit in her new home.

“When you see it on her floor plan,” says Mary Ann, “you clearly understand what you can bring.”

Mary Ann downsized prior to listing her house. Neither a collector nor a saver, after she’d removed furniture she wasn’t taking to Ann’s Choice, her home appeared even more spacious.

Prospective buyers also saw a meticulously cared for and well-appointed home, which was a major selling point.

Through the years, Mary Ann and her late husband had made annual updates such as a new roof, new siding, seven new skylights, and custom cabinets.

And just two years before she decided to sell, Mary Ann had the entire interior painted in an appealing neutral color.

Because she used an Erickson Living-preferred real estate agent, Mary Ann was reimbursed $2,000 on her moving costs. She also used a preferred moving company.

“It was a good move,” she says.
