Donna Mason, who moved to Wind Crest, says the Erickson Living community in Highlands Ranch, Colo., meets all her needs, including complimentary moving coordination, which made her quick, two-month move from Greeley, Colo., easy as pie.

Donna Mason knew she wanted to live at Wind Crest before she was even old enough to move there. When she turned 65 and moved to the Erickson Living community in Highlands Ranch, Colo., her girlfriends told her she was too young. Her response?

“You don’t get it. You have to move when you’re young so you can take advantage of all the amenities and activities,” she says.

By choosing the Erickson Living lifestyle at a younger age, she also avoided much of the stress that comes with moving. However, regardless of your age, Erickson Living offers complimentary moving coordination.

Erickson Living communities have their own local personal moving consultant who provides coordination of all realty and moving needs, including downsizing, home staging, packing, and selection of a real estate professional.

Planning the move

Personal Moving Consultant Beth Brandenburg met with Donna in her 3,000-square-foot patio home in Greeley, Colo., armed with a magnetic floor plan of Donna’s new apartment. She toured Donna’s house to see which existing furniture pieces she wanted to bring to her new home. Then she measured them and placed the to-scale pieces on the magnetic floor plan.

“Beth came to Greeley, brought lunch, and helped me with the floor plan. She did a really good job. When I moved in and had everything put away and all the boxes empty, I had one lamp left over to take to the Treasure Chest (Wind Crest’s on-site resale shop).

“With the furniture plan, I knew ahead of time what would fit and what wouldn’t. I bought a few small things specifically for this place,” she says.

Her sister claimed much of the furniture, and her daughter claimed some things as well. She donated the leftovers. “Within the two months before I moved, I was able to get rid of everything I wouldn’t bring with me,” Donna says.

Donna says downsizing was a liberating experience. “It’s very freeing to know that you never have to move again and that the stuff you have with you is the stuff you really want and need,” she says. “This is a very relaxed, easy way to live. After working hard all your life, it’s the perfect way to spend your retirement.”
