Ann Brazil continues a tradition started by her mother, who always welcomed new neighbors on moving day with homemade baked goods.

“It is one of my earliest childhood memories,” says Ann. “My mother would always say, ‘It’s just how you greet new people.’”

Ann packages her muffins with a welcome card and a photo taken by neighbor Lila Martin, who creates lovely cards and calendars featuring outdoor scenes from the Overland Park, Kans., community. The welcome card includes the muffins’ ingredients so any allergies can be noted.

“Welcoming new neighbors with muffins makes moving day a little less hectic,” says Ann. “It’s a wonderful way to meet people, and they are always appreciative of having something healthy and good to eat.”
