Dick and Sue Worth moved to Highland Springs shortly after it opened in 2006. The first item on their to-do list? Plan their annual holiday party.

“One of the first things I did was look at options for hosting our annual Christmas Eve party,” says Sue. “We’ve been hosting our close friends for 40 years on Christmas Eve, and it wasn’t something I wanted to give up when we moved to Highland Springs. I just wasn’t sure how it would work.”

Sue contacted catering services at the North Dallas Erickson Living community to inquire about options for hosting her annual party in the couple’s new two-bedroom, two-bath Lancaster-style apartment home.

“It worked out beautifully,” says Sue. “The catering department prepared a selection of finger foods, including little sandwiches and fruit kabobs, and brought it all up to my apartment on Christmas Eve.”

Dick and Sue’s annual party transitioned from their Richardson home to Highland Springs without a glitch. At the end of the evening, one family friend mentioned to Sue that he’d been coming to their house for 40 years on Christmas Eve and was happy to continue the tradition.

“The party is important to me,” says Sue. “Now that we live at Highland Springs, I can keep hosting it, and I have people to help me pull it all together.”

Plenty of options

Catering services at Highland Springs offer several options for residents, who can host a catered gathering in their apartment, in the community’s private dining room that seats 16, or in the music classroom.

“If a resident wants to host an event, the first thing we’ll do is sit down and plan the menu,” says Wayne Medina, catering and events coordinator. “They can choose from one of our preset options or customize the menu to their liking.”

Community members also have the option to host a plated meal or a buffet.

“All the details are covered in one pleasant meeting with Wayne,” says Dennie Lindsey, who’s hosted numerous events at Highland Springs including a wedding shower, a family reunion, and a luncheon for her friends from high school. “The staff takes care of the preparations, which allows me to be available to my guests. It’s wonderful.”

Catering services have options to suit every budget. There’s a range of choices within each price point.

“We prepare all the food in our kitchen, and then we can either bring it up to a resident’s apartment or serve it in the private dining room or music classroom,” says Medina. “We offer tabletop settings, so people don’t have to worry with dishes and flatware. We can also provide matching décor and centerpieces. We take it all away after the party, so there’s no mess to clean up.”
