Conventional wisdom says the holiday season is busy enough. Why add moving to the mix?

There are a few good reasons why the year’s end might be an ideal time to list and sell a home. Here are five to consider:

1. Fewer homes are on the market.

The logic that might cause you to put off listing your home is the very same that could benefit you as a seller.

“Historically, there aren’t as many homes on the market around the holidays as there are in the spring and summer months,” says Lisa Hudgens, a real estate agent with RE/MAX Northwest in Spring, Tex. “Smaller inventory means there’s less competition for buyers.”

2. Potential buyers often want to close by the end of the year to get their homestead exemption.

“Buyers want the tax credit that comes with a homestead exemption, so many of them will push to close before December 31,” says Hudgens. “It’s an extra incentive for buyers to act quickly.”

3. Historically low interest rates.

Despite recent speculation about mortgage rate increases, interest rates remain historically low. Buyers want to tap into the low interest rates before they do begin to rise.

4. Year-end incentives available for those wanting to move.

Eagle’s Trace, the Erickson Living community in West Houston, offers prospective residents $10,000 off the entrance deposit on select apartments in its newest residence building, Amarillo Terrace, if they settle before the end of the year.

“This is a limited-time opportunity to secure one of our beautiful new apartments in Amarillo Terrace before December 31,” says Pamela Burgeson, sales director at Eagle’s Trace.

Featuring 108 new apartment homes, Amarillo Terrace introduces 17 never-before-seen floor plans. Granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and tiled showers are standard in every Amarillo Terrace residence.

5. Moving assistance is available year-round.

Erickson Realty and Moving Services offers year-round assistance for those moving to an Erickson Living community.

Haven Benoit, personal moving consultant at Eagle’s Trace, offers complimentary coordination of moving services, including referrals to real estate agents, senior move managers, and moving companies.
