Jim Powers moved to Fox Run to be with his significant other, Cindy Candela, who has lived at the community since 2010.

Jim Powers moved from a condo in Madison, Wis., to Fox Run in Novi, Mich., a little less than two years ago. The path that led Jim to Fox Run is slightly different from the one taken by many of his neighbors.

Jim was dating Cindy Candela, who had moved to Fox Run in 2010 from Westland, Mich., and he decided to relocate to the community in order to be with her.

“We had been going back and forth between here and Madison,” Jim says. “The circumstances arose that I was looking for a new place to live, so I moved in with her.”

Freedom for free time

Jim and Cindy live in a two-bedroom Fairmont-style apartment home at Fox Run.

For her part, Cindy decided to move to Fox Run several years ago because taking care of a big, four-bedroom house that she no longer needed was becoming a burden. Now Jim and Cindy enjoy maintenance-free living together.

“I think it’s quite a nice place to live,” Jim says. “Everything is right here, and there are a lot of wonderful people—I’ve sure met some good friends.”

With plenty of free time to spend doing things they enjoy, Jim and Cindy play together on a bocce ball league that meets at Fox Run during nice weather. Jim also plays Ping-Pong with his neighbors and makes a point to work out at the on-site fitness center.

“It’s really nice to have that right here,” he says.

Coming home

Jim, who retired about three years ago from his career as a sales rep for a school supplies company, is passionate about golf. When the weather permits, he plays every chance he gets. In fact, he even works part time at a nearby golf course as a starter and ranger. His job gives him access to discounted rounds of golf, which means he can play even more frequently.

“Most of my waking moments in the summer are spent at the golf course,” he says.

Jim’s move to Michigan was a homecoming of sorts. Born in Ypsilanti, he lived in Wayne until he was eighteen years old.

Now, Jim and Cindy take one or two trips each year to northern Michigan, and they travel to Kentucky and Tennessee to visit family. They recently took a trip to Philadelphia and sometimes escape to Florida when the Michigan weather turns cold.

“It’s a nice little break at some point in the winter,” Jim says.
