What should senior living look like in the future? Who knows better than potential future residents—2, 10, or 20 years from moving?

A great way for prospective residents to shape the future of senior living is by joining the Senior Living Advisory Board, Erickson Living’s online research panel.

Panelists participate in monthly surveys about senior living and lifestyle topics. Erickson Living uses the opinions and insights from the Senior Living Advisory Board in planning the future of our communities.

“Our research panel allows us to hear firsthand from customers at every stage of consideration, from those who plan to move soon to those who are just beginning to explore their options,” says Nancy Baker, Erickson Living’s vice president of market intelligence. “Panel membership is a great way for future residents to make sure their wants and needs are heard.”

Board member Keith McCartney, who is scheduled to move this summer to Ashby Ponds, an Erickson Living community in Ashburn, Va., says, “Erickson is very responsive to what they hear from the Senior Living Advisory Board. I’ve seen changes in the dining program and the fitness facilities.”

Valuable feedback

Recent findings from board surveys include:

• Potential residents consider many elements when evaluating a senior living community. Among their top concerns are the ability to age in place and the overall “feel” of the community. They want a community that is friendly, active, and health conscious.

• When it comes to apartment layouts, the majority prefers open floor plans, in which the kitchen, dining area, and living room flow together.

• Panelists want a wide range of fitness and recreational options on campus, both indoors and out. Many add that fitness programs and facilities must be adaptable for those with mobility or health problems.

The Senior Living Advisory Board is an initiative of Erickson Living’s Market Intelligence department. The department conducts research with residents and prospective residents, reviews industry research, and keeps up on trends in senior living and parallel industries.
