The annual Tallgrass Creek Duck Derby features residents (from left) Karen Norman, Sharad Gavankar, Lorie Stapp, Bill Converse, Joyce Moore, and (behind) Wellness Coordinator Cydney Cunningham. They use webbed aquatic gloves to create a current that forced about 130 rubber ducks to “race” across the community’s indoor, temperature-controlled pool. Numbers on the ducks correspond to donations made by residents and staff for the community’s Resident Care Fund, which assists residents experiencing an unforeseen change in their financial situation (details are in the Residence and Care Agreement). The derby raised more than $1,000 for the fund.
