The walls of Ruth Holzschuh’s sunny residence at Tallgrass Creek in Overland Park, Kans., are adorned with unique mementos from her many, far-reaching travels.

“I’ve visited 87 countries, soon to be 89 when I tour Australia and New Zealand in November,” notes Ruth. “My home is full of my unusual finds.”

When Ruth decided to move to a retirement community, she knew she wanted her interesting pieces to go too. She began looking around and says something was different at Tallgrass Creek.

“People were out doing things,” says Ruth. “They were exercising, chatting in the halls and dining areas, and genuinely enjoying each other.”

She reserved an apartment home in Meadowlark Terrace, which at the time, was Tallgrass Creek’s newest residence building still under construction.

Where to start

Ruth moved from a four-bedroom house in Overland Park where she and her late husband Ron raised their family. Before her move, Tallgrass Creek’s personal moving consultant visited and, using her new home’s floor plan, measured pieces of furniture that would work best in her new home, which was a “tremendous help,” says Ruth.

Ruth started going through her household but realized she needed help. That’s when a team from Gentle Changes, a local Erickson Living-recommended company specializing in senior moves, came to the rescue.

“I’m not sure what I would have done without them,” says Ruth.

High marks also went to real estate professionals Joan and Ron Yaffe and movers C & C Relocation, both recommended partners with Erickson Realty and Moving Services. On moving day, the team from Gentle Changes organized her home beautifully.

“Having the floor plan laid out and everything organized from the kitchen to the closets to making my bed was amazing,” says Ruth. “I had the best night’s sleep that first night I’d had in months.”

Ruth participates in many activities at Tallgrass Creek and has discovered while exercising in the community’s indoor pool that she loves water volleyball.

“This is the perfect place for me,” says Ruth. “I wouldn’t change anything.”
