Aileen Harvey previously lived in a condo in Waltham, Mass., but after her husband passed away, she started thinking about moving to a retirement community. She had visited Linden Ponds, an Erickson Living community in Hingham, and liked what she saw. When two of her children were visiting from out of state, she brought them to visit the community as well. The whole family agreed that Linden Ponds would be a great fit for Aileen, so she decided to move forward.

As a prospective Linden Ponds resident, Aileen had plenty of help with her move. She had access to Erickson Realty and Moving Services, a special program that offers complimentary coordination of all realty and moving needs, including downsizing, home staging, packing, and selection of a real estate professional. Aileen worked directly with Linden Ponds Personal Moving Consultant Lynne Ford, who helped her figure out which pieces of furniture would work best in her new space.

“It was very good, and Lynne was very helpful,” Aileen says. “She came over to my condo and measured my furniture and rugs and then sent me a floor plan showing exactly where everything would go.”

Aileen says Ford gave her some good advice about living in a smaller space. For instance, she recommended using tall shelves because they take up the same amount of floor space but can store more books, trinkets, and other items.

New home and life

Aileen selected a Harrison-style apartment home at Linden Ponds. Her new home has two bedrooms, one bathroom, and a large living and dining room.

“It’s a corner unit, so I have windows on two sides,” Aileen says. “It’s bright and light, and it’s sunny in the morning.”

On her moving day last fall, Aileen says the movers took the floor plan Ford had designed and pinned it to the fridge. They placed everything exactly where it was supposed to go, making it easy for Aileen to get settled in right away.

“Everything fit perfectly, and Lynne was even able to find a place for my china cabinet,” Aileen says. “I was very pleased.”

Aileen is enjoying living at Linden Ponds. She particularly likes exercising at the on-site fitness center and watching movies at the performing arts center. She also plays bridge and is a member of the book club.

“It’s very easy living,” Aileen says. “It was a nice transition.”
