In April, the Novi Chamber of Commerce named Fox Run the “Best Place to Work” in the large business category for the second year in a row. Of course, the honor doesn’t come as a surprise to the 700 people who work at the Erickson Living retirement community in Novi, Mich. They enjoy the perks of being a Fox Run employee day in and day out.

Those perks include paid opportunities to do volunteer work and tuition assistance. Hourly workers like line cooks and housekeepers receive annual cash bonuses from the Staff Appreciation Fund, which is funded by donations from residents. And high school students who work at the community are eligible for college scholarships through Fox Run’s Scholars’ Fund.

Fox Run staff members also have many opportunities to socialize and have fun at work with one another as well as with the people who live there. Events like staff and resident lip sync contests, theater productions, dance competitions, and theme parties are commonplace on the lively campus.

“It’s an extremely fun place to work—you can’t walk down a hallway without seeing smiling, engaged people,” says Sales Director Allison Murphy. “There is always a lunch, a breakfast, a dinner, or some other celebration happening here. It feels like being part of a big family.”

Murphy has worked in the senior housing industry for many years. She says one of the things that stands out about Fox Run is the investment that management makes in employees.

“The executive team here has a genuine desire to grow leaders. They mentor and encourage people to continue the journey in their career here at Fox Run,” Murphy says.

She believes that investment in staff members pays “huge dividends” in the form of employees who provide top-notch service, care, and compassion.

“Happy employees create a happy home,” Murphy says.
