Last year, Joseph Heidelmaier sold his Parkville house and moved to Oak Crest. He credits Personal Moving Consultant Ashley Ruth for a smooth selling and moving process.

With each load of laundry Joseph Heidelmaier carried down the stairs to the basement of his three-level Parkville, Md., townhome, he grew more and more confident that he was ready for a change.

Luckily, the perfect solution was just five miles down the road at Oak Crest.

“I lived in my house for 32 years and I was looking to downsize to a smaller place,” says Joseph, a Westinghouse retiree. “I was tired of lugging groceries from the car up the front stairs into the house, and carrying the laundry all the way from the basement up to the bedroom was getting to be too much.”

Joseph had friends and relatives who lived at Oak Crest, so naturally, he decided to take a closer look.

“I liked the fact that everything I need is right here within the community—dining, medical facilities, a fitness center, activities,” says Joseph.

Easier than expected

With help from Oak Crest Personal Moving Consultant Ashley Ruth, Joseph discovered that downsizing and moving was easier than he imagined it might be.

“Ashley was a tremendous help,” says Joseph. “She gave me a list of resources for selling and donating things I no longer wanted, and she recommended a real estate agent who was excellent. My house sold in one week for $1,000 above my asking price.

“She also came out to my house with a scaled floor plan of my new apartment and we made a template of where all my furniture would go,” he adds. “On the day of the move, the movers put everything exactly just as we had laid it out and everything fit perfectly.”

It’s been only ten months since his move, but Joseph has already begun taking on-site college classes, exercising at the fitness center, and attending the chapel. But above all, it’s the people he’s met at Oak Crest who have made his new place feel like home.

“I’ve met some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met here,” says Joseph. “The staff is extremely friendly and efficient. You hardly ever pass by someone who doesn’t say hello. It’s a wonderful environment.”
