Anne DeStefano relaxes in her Brighton-style apartment at Brooksby, the Erickson Living community in Peabody, Mass.

As soon as Anne DeStefano stepped into the Brooksby Village apartment she now calls home, the natural light streaming through the bay window made an immediate impression.

“The apartment is so light and bright,” says Anne. “It was the first feature I noticed.”

Anne’s apartment is a one-bedroom, one-bath Brighton floor plan. The kitchen, dining area, and living room flow from one into the other, creating a great room that spans the length of the apartment and allowing natural light to flood the space.

“I had a short timeline for moving,” says Anne, who retired from the oil and gas industry. “My house in Andover [Mass.] sold in a day, so it was already under contract when I started looking at apartments at Brooksby. The sales team showed me two apartments before we looked at this Brighton. I loved the brightness of this apartment.”

Efficient and economical

The Brighton, one of Brooksby’s most popular one-bedroom floor plans, is both economical and efficient, maximizing the square footage for best use of space. The generous living room can accommodate both dining and seating areas. The spacious master bedroom leads into a large bathroom and walk-in closet.

Brooksby residents can also work with the community’s Custom Interiors department to personalize their apartments with upgrades, including crown molding, custom closets, upgraded lighting or flooring, custom paint, window treatments, and more.

As Anne prepared to move to the Peabody, Mass., Erickson Living community in August 2015, she gave careful consideration to the furniture and home accents that would make the apartment a reflection of her style. Touches of yellow, added with throw pillows and décor, reflect the cheeriness that first drew her to the apartment.

An avid gardener, Anne’s houseplants fill the bay window, flourishing in the natural light. Her connection to the outdoors, however, doesn’t stop at the perimeter of her apartment. Brooksby’s 90 picturesque acres are filled with treasures to discover and appreciate.

“My house in Andover was set on an acre of land, and everything was a garden,” says Anne. “Now that I’ve been at Brooksby for two years, I’m finding more and more outdoor spaces to enjoy.”

Easy access to a host of amenities

Every apartment at Brooksby Village comes with quick, easy access to a host of amenities, including the medical center, fitness center, indoor swimming pool, five restaurants, chapel, television studio, woodshop, salon, bank, and more.

The on-site amenities, along with the outdoor gardens and walking trails, serve as an extension of residents’ living space.

Anne’s garden, near the Towne Centre Clubhouse, is bordered by a rocky outcropping—a testament to the community’s history as a quarry.

“Each season, I enjoy planning my garden like I would a room,” she says. “I think through the placement of all the plants ahead of time.”

Anne also enjoys walking along the Danvers Rail Trail, which borders Brooksby.

“I walk along the Rail Trail to Dunkin’ Donuts, have my coffee and a donut, and walk back to Brooksby,” she says. “One time I saw that part of a pussy willow tree had fallen by the trail, so I grabbed my clippers and brought home a large bundle of pussy willow branches to decorate my apartment and to share with friends and family.”

This past winter, the winterberry plants lining the entrance to Brooksby intrigued Anne.

“I asked the landscape crew if I could have a few branches, and they cut several for me,” says Anne.

In addition to gardening, Anne also enjoys bowling, playing bocce ball, honing her woodworking skills in Brooksby’s woodshop, and participating in the Women’s Forum activities.

“I like to feel connected to my surroundings,” says Anne, whose Brighton apartment acts as the hub of her Brooksby activities. “This community has so much to offer.”
