Connie Andrews sold her childhood home in Canton, Md., and moved to Charlestown a year ago.

Last fall Connie Andrews decided to sell her Canton, Md., row home in search of a more carefree lifestyle. After exploring her options, she was sure Charlestown, an Erickson Living community in Catonsville, Md., was the perfect fit. Still, letting go of the childhood home that had been in her family for the last 87 years was bittersweet.

“I enjoyed many years in my house, but I was ready to move. The thing that tipped the scale in Charlestown’s favor was the friendliness of the community,” says Connie. “It reminded me of the way Canton used to be years ago when I knew my neighbors.”

With three specific items on her wish list, Connie was prepared to wait two to three years until the apartment she wanted became available.

“The view was the most important thing for me,” says Connie. “I’m a city girl at heart, and I wanted to be able to see the city from my apartment. I also love to cook and bake, so I needed a good-size kitchen.”

To her surprise it only took a few weeks to find the two-bedroom, two-bath apartment she had been hoping for. Connie worked with Charlestown’s Custom Interiors department to select her paint colors, custom lighting, and the built-in bookcases she had installed to display a collection of model ships built by her dad.

She also relied on Charlestown’s sales team to help coordinate her move and provide her with a network of professionals with experience in downsizing, staging, home repairs, packing, moving, and real estate.

“I chose a Realtor and mover they recommended because I knew they had already been vetted by Charlestown,” says Connie. “Everyone I worked with was wonderful. The house was only on the market for about 2 weeks before it sold. The whole sales team at Charlestown worked together to meet my needs and find me the perfect apartment.”

October marks Connie’s one-year anniversary at Charlestown. Although she has fond memories of her family home, she’s never been happier.

“One of my friends saw me two weeks after I moved and said, ‘Connie, you look so relaxed!’ She was right. There’s no stress anymore. It was the best move I could have ever made!”
