Construction workers are hard at work these days putting the final touches on Hummingbird Square, Tallgrass Creek’s new residence building, scheduled for completion later this fall. Hummingbird Square will be the fourth residence building at Tallgrass Creek, which is located in Overland Park, Kans., and one of 19 active, retirement communities managed by Erickson Living in Baltimore, Md.

The four-story Hummingbird Square will feature 108 new residences with 18 different designs, including 7 never-before-seen floor plans. It connects via a climate-controlled walkway to Bluebird Crossing, one of the original residence buildings at Tallgrass Creek.

Getting to know you better—better

To ensure no question goes unanswered, the Tallgrass Creek sales team recently hosted a gourmet luncheon and discussion for future Hummingbird Square residents with Tallgrass Creek’s executive management team. Future neighbors enjoyed chatting with Executive Director Jean Landreville along with management team members from finance, dining services, medical, human resources, and resident life.

“We’re at an exciting time with Hummingbird Square in the final stages of becoming move-in ready,” says Blake Marshall, Sales Director. “This event was particularly enjoyable for future residents as they connected with some of their future neighbors along with the people at Tallgrass Creek who work hard to make this such a thriving, energetic community.”

Tallgrass Creek’s management team joined future neighbors for a chef-prepared luncheon of fresh spinach-kale salad; a choice of boneless, braised short ribs or grilled swordfish; glazed carrots; and mashed Yukon potatoes. The Tallgrass Creek kitchen, known for its desserts, finished with an assortment of tarts filled with sweet cream cheese, topped with fresh fruit and Grand Marnier pastry cream.

Lots to like

The recent luncheon is one of several social and informative gatherings the sales team has hosted this year for future Hummingbird Square community members. Nametags at the events always include addresses of reserved residences, so there is much meeting and greeting as neighbors-to-be connect with each other.

Past events for future neighbors include four different seminars introducing Erickson Realty and Moving Services, a special program that includes complimentary coordination of all realty and moving needs for those moving to Tallgrass Creek. These services include home staging, packing, downsizing, and selection of a real estate professional.

Local realty, moving, and downsizing professionals vetted by Tallgrass Creek to participate in Erickson Realty and Moving Services attended each seminar so attendees could ask questions and discuss their particular needs.

Each time future residents visit, they become more familiar with the many amenities in Tallgrass Creek’s 62,000-square-foot clubhouse, including the medical center with on-site physicians and staff, all-season pool, fitness center, library, salon and spa, Sunflower Bistro, and the newly designed Market Place, a sunny coffee shop and mini-grocery.

The active community is right across the street from Overland Park’s bustling 135th Street corridor, with its myriad of upscale restaurants, shopping, museums, and entertainment, including the highly acclaimed Corbin Park and Prairie Fire outdoor retail villages.

“As the saying goes, ‘location, location, location,’” says Elaine Bahr, who schedules one-on-one visits with prospective residents. “Tallgrass Creek is right in the middle of everything, and one of the things residents-to-be love about our community.”

There’s more

As the excitement and anticipation of moving day approaches for future Hummingbird Square residents, another beautiful residence building is literally peeking over the horizon. The groundbreaking for Goldfinch Lane, Tallgrass Creek’s fifth residence building, took place earlier this year with a scheduled fall 2018 completion.

Goldfinch Lane will add 78 spacious residences featuring 12 different designs, including previously sold-out floor plan styles back by popular demand. The new residence building will also house a 1,200-square-foot, multiuse community room that community members can reserve for meetings or personal gatherings.

The four-story building will offer deluxe appliances and finishes, upgraded lighting and flooring, and connect on both the first floor and terrace level of Bluebird Crossing, one of the original residence buildings at Tallgrass Creek.

“We are hearing from quite a few who missed out on Hummingbird Square and don’t want that to happen again,” says Bahr. “With Goldfinch Lane’s completion date about a year away, it’s a great time to reserve exactly the residence you want and still have plenty of time to make moving plans.”
