Following a 32-year career in education, Merrilyn Meushaw returned to the classroom as a student, this time to nurture her love of art. She took painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture classes at Houston Community College.

“Those classes encouraged my creativity,” says Merrilyn, who found herself drawn to one art form, Zentangle, in particular. Zentangle is an abstract technique that uses repeated patterns drawn in black ink.

“Zentangle has a calming effect,” says Merrilyn. “It creates a mood, a focus, a state of mind.”

Merrilyn teaches a weekly Zentangle class at Eagle’s Trace, the Erickson Living community where she lives.

In early 2016, Merrilyn also began teaching an Ageless Grace class at the West Houston community. Ageless Grace is a fitness program designed to optimize brain function.

“Both Zentangle and Ageless Grace focus on the brain-body connection, which is essential for overall wellness,” says Merrilyn.
