Birch Point nears completion and will welcome new residents this coming spring.

This past July, Ashby Ponds celebrated the opening of its tenth residence building, Cherry Blossom Square. Coupled with the upcoming opening of two more residence buildings, Birch Point and Cypress Ridge, the Erickson Living community in Ashburn, Va., is now the largest developing continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in the nation.

“Our current expansion and growth is the direct result of the large and off-the-charts demand for the Erickson Living lifestyle in Loudoun County,” says Ashby Ponds Director of Sales Holly Henderson. “Without new construction, we would not have enough apartment homes to meet this demand. Ashby Ponds offers a truly unique and preferred lifestyle, and for that reason we continue to grow.”

As an indicator of this demand, priority list members reserved more than half of the homes available in Birch Point and Cypress Ridge before they were announced to the general public.

“With Cherry Blossom Square now open, people are reserving the remaining homes in Birch Point and Cypress Ridge at a record rate,” says Henderson.

Beautiful new homes

The addition of Cherry Blossom Square, Birch Point, and Cypress Ridge will add 273 new apartment homes to the community and feature popular amenities, including airy layouts; modernized kitchens with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances; full-size, side-by-side washer and dryer; walk-in closets; and custom flooring and fixtures.

Each new apartment home will be easily accessible to Ashby Ponds’ two clubhouses via climate-controlled walkways. Inside the clubhouses, community members have access to an on-site medical center, fitness and aquatics center, performing arts theater, day spa, classrooms, computer lab, and art studio.

“We listened carefully to what our current residents and priority list members enjoy most about apartment homes already on campus,” says Henderson. “As a result, each of our new residence buildings will offer our most popular floor plans, like the large one-bedroom, one-bath with porch Bradford; the deluxe two-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath with utility room Walton; and the large two-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bath McKinley.

Ashby Ponds hosted a variety of focus groups to ensure the community was providing people not only with the floor plan they desired but also the amenities they wanted. “For example,” says Henderson, “a recent focus group of future Cherry Blossom residents helped develop the menu for our newest restaurant, 1912 [named for the year Japan gifted the U.S. with the cherry blossom trees]. The participants were excited for the opportunity to influence their future dining options.”

Next steps

With Cherry Blossom Square now open and the homes at Birch Point and Cypress Ridge scheduled to open in spring and summer 2018, respectively, Henderson and her sales staff continue to meet with hundreds of people eager to join the thriving community each month.

“Cherry Blossom Square was completely occupied within weeks of opening,” says Henderson. “We anticipate the same for Birch Point and Cypress Ridge. Word of mouth is a powerful force. Our community members love living here, and they continue to spread the word among family and friends. Since announcing its arrival to the priority list, more than 65% of the new homes have been reserved.”

Along with its many benefits, including reserving a place in line for a future home at Ashby Ponds, joining the priority list means receiving first notice of new construction—an enormous benefit for a community located in the fastest-growing county in the country.

“I strongly encourage anyone considering a future at Ashby Ponds to consider joining,” says Henderson.

All it takes to join the priority list is a fully refundable $1,000 deposit and a $150-per-person nonrefundable application fee. When prospective residents submit their deposit, that date is noted as their priority list date. As apartment homes become available, the sales team gives first right of refusal to priority list members based on their joining date.

In addition to first notice on new construction, priority list members also receive invitations to exclusive events and access to the wide range of services provided by Erickson Realty and Moving Services specialists. Priority list members may also schedule an overnight visit in the “Live the Life” suite to experience Ashby Ponds living firsthand.

Welcome wagon

For their part, current Ashby Ponds community members are eager to meet their new neighbors.

“Every new community member enriches all of us with his or her experiences and talents,” says George Menassa. “Ashby Ponds is an extremely warm and friendly place where we all try to make everyone feel welcome and valued.”

“This is an exciting and historic time at Ashby Ponds,” says Henderson. “The fact that Ashby Ponds is now the largest developing CCRC in the country means that we are meeting our goal of bringing the gold standard in retirement living to as many people as possible.”
