Bob Roenigk played in the inaugural season of the Harris County Senior Softball League in 1981. This year, at 91, he’s in his 37th season with the league.

“The Harris County Senior Softball League is open to all players over the age of 50,” says Bob, a second baseman. “This year, we have about 320 players on 28 teams.”

Bob plays in the league’s National division, with games on Monday and Wednesday evenings at Bayland Park in Houston.

For the past several years, Bob’s team has been sponsored by Eagle’s Trace, the Erickson Living community in West Houston where Bob has lived with his wife Georgie since 2013.

With almost four decades of slow pitch softball under his belt, Bob says he keeps coming back season after season because he enjoys the game.

“It’s still a lot of fun,” says Bob. “Recently, a batter from the other team hit a line drive to second. I jumped up, caught it, and made a double play. That doesn’t happen every game, but it sure is fun when it does.”
