Looking for a great last-minute gift for a movie lover? Consider a subscription to a relatively new service that seems almost too good to be true. For just $9.95 a month, a MoviePass subscriber can see one movie a day. That’s right! An annual subscription comes to $119.40 and entitles the subscriber to see 365 films in a movie theater.

By comparison, a Netflix subscription costs between $7.99 and $13.99 a month. And when you consider that the average cost of a movie ticket is just under $10, if you see more than one film a month, MoviePass a fantastic deal.

A MoviePass subscriber can see all the major movies at 91% of theaters nationwide. Chains like Regal, AMC, and Cinemark participate (Arclight and Landmark have opted out for the time being). There are no blackout dates, and the only restriction is that MoviePass doesn’t include admission to 3D films.

A survey of MoviePass subscribers shows that many are now seeing films they would not otherwise have seen in a theater. They are also buying snacks—lots of them. Concession sales have increased 120% with MoviePass.

Win-win

Cinephiles get to see more films for less money. Theaters fill seats and sell more concessions. And movie studios increase their box office. (MoviePass tickets cost the service the going rate for the ticket, so neither the studio nor the theater is sacrificing income to accommodate the service.)

Not surprisingly, MoviePass is extremely popular. When it launched nationally in September, it had 400,000 subscribers. By August 2018, they expect that number to grow to 3,100,000.

To sign up for MoviePass, visit the website at moviepass.com and register. You will receive a membership card in the mail. Getting tickets will require a smartphone and a downloadable app. The website has all the information.

The only downside is that MoviePass has been so popular, it’s a little behind in getting membership cards in the mail. It may take a few weeks, but be patient. Once you have the card, you’ll be all set to enjoy a movie a day.
