For the last 30 years, Steve and Janet Arpee lived in their home in Washington, D.C., taking full advantage of city living. However, last summer, the couple realized that city living was becoming more burdensome than adventurous.

“Both our sons and three grandchildren live in Northern Virginia,” says Steve. “It was not only becoming a hassle to travel in and out of the city, it was an ordeal to travel and make appointments in the city. And more than anything we wanted to be closer to our family.”

Last summer the couple’s youngest son moved to Alexandria, Va., not far from Greenspring

“That really triggered our interest,” says Steve. “A good friend of ours, who lives at Greenspring, strongly suggested we schedule a visit. We did and immediately knew that this is where we wanted to live.”

Everything moved very quickly after that.

Proof is in the process

“Once we made our deposit, [Personal Moving Consultant] Anna Greves came out to our house to help prepare us for our move,” says Steve. What we weren’t prepared for was just how helpful she would be. She was invaluable to us throughout the entire process.”

Greves provided the couple with a recommended real estate agent and a team of moving professionals with extensive experience moving people to Greenspring.

“Our real estate agent was also wonderful,” says Steve. “We were encouraged to make only the necessary upgrades to our house, which included purchasing some new appliances.”

Greves also put the couple in touch with a recommended moving company.

“They were essential,” says Steve. “I have lots and lots of books and it was important to me to bring them to our new home.”

Just two months after their first visit to Greenspring, the Arpees moved into their new one-bedroom with den Gilbert home. Since then, they’ve hosted their sons and grandchildren, often enjoying a meal together in one of the five restaurants on campus.

“We would absolutely recommend Anna to anyone considering a move to Greenspring,” says Steve. “In fact, since our move we’ve had a number of our friends visit and I believe they will soon be working with Anna as well.”
