Justin Paradis was recently named associate executive director at Brooksby Village.

Erickson Living has named Justin Paradis the associate executive director at Brooksby Village in Peabody, Mass. Paradis has been with Erickson Living since November 2006 working in health care operations.

“I started out as a history and education major in college, but then I had knee and shoulder surgeries less than a year apart,” says Paradis. “That’s when I decided I wanted to be a physical therapist.”

Paradis, a native of Rockport, graduated with a degree in exercise science from the University of Massachusetts before earning his doctorate in physical therapy from the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston.

“I went to work as a physical therapist for the Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital in Salem,” says Paradis. “One of the occupational therapists at the hospital recommended Brooksby Village, and I started working at the community part time in 2006.”

Valuable experience

In the spring of 2007, Paradis accepted a full-time position at Brooksby in outpatient rehabilitation.

After a year at Brooksby, Paradis moved into a new role as the rehabilitation manager at Linden Ponds, the Erickson Living community in Hingham.

“That was an exciting opportunity for me because I got to be part of the startup team for Linden Ponds’ continuing care neighborhood,” says Paradis. “It was neat to go through the process of planning for and opening their continuing care neighborhood.”

While at Linden Ponds, Paradis had the opportunity to work with Tracie Bettano, now executive director at Brooksby, who, at the time, was working at Erickson Living’s corporate office as director of clinical operations for rehabilitation.

“I worked with Tracie during the opening of Linden Ponds’ continuing care neighborhood,” says Paradis. “We’ve known each other for more than a decade, so it’s been a good transition working together in this capacity at Brooksby.”

Springboard to the future

Paradis completed Erickson Living’s administrator-in-training program in 2012 and earned his nursing home administrator’s license. He was named assistant administrator of continuing care at Linden Ponds in January 2013 and, later that year, was promoted to director of continuing care at Linden Ponds.

In 2014, because of a desire to be closer to family in his hometown of Rockport. Paradis returned to Brooksby as assistant administrator of continuing care. A year later, he was named director of Brooksby’s continuing care neighborhood.

Paradis was appointed associate executive director of Brooksby in the fall of 2017, working alongside Executive Director Tracie Bettano.

“My experience in continuing care was a good springboard to this position in terms of contract compliance, concern resolution, and regulatory compliance,” says Paradis. “Now I’m learning about the daily operations of the whole community and involved in longrange strategic planning.”

Best part of the job

Paradis hopes his leadership style translates as approachable, honest, and flexible.

“I’ll echo the sentiments of everyone who lives and works here,” he says. “Our residents are the best part of this community. My favorite part of coming to work is getting to know their stories. As a history buff, I spend a lot of my free time reading about history. Our residents have a tremendous amount of life experience and have lived through some pretty remarkable decades. We can learn a lot from them.”

At home, Paradis enjoys spending time with his wife Katie and their one-year-old daughter Adley.
