This month, the Ashby Ponds community welcomes more than 100 new residents with the opening of its eleventh residence building—Birch Point.

This month, Birch Point, the newest independent living residence building at Ashby Ponds, will open its doors to more than 100 new residents eager to join the thriving Erickson Living community in Ashburn, Va.

Providing 77 new apartment homes, Birch Point is the eleventh residence building at Ashby Ponds, and will be followed later this year by the opening of the 80 apartment homes at Cypress Ridge.

“This is an exciting time for Ashby Ponds,” says Executive Director Craig Karczmer. “Our goal is to meet the tremendous demand for the Erickson Living lifestyle in Loudoun County. The opening of Birch Point brings us one step closer to our goal of bringing the gold standard in continuing care retirement living to as many people as possible.”

All of the new apartment homes in Birch Point feature amenities already popular at Ashby Ponds, including airy layouts; modernized kitchens with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances; full-size, side-by-side washers and dryers; walk-in closets; and custom flooring and light fixtures. Convenient under-building parking is also available.

Each new apartment home will be easily accessible to both Great Oak Clubhouse and Cardinal Clubhouse via climate-controlled walkways. Inside the clubhouses, community members will enjoy an on-site medical center, fitness and aquatics center, performing arts theater, day spa, classrooms, computer lab, and art studio.

Something new to enjoy

With the opening of Birch Point, Ashby Ponds community members will enjoy a sixth dining option, the new Dogwood Pub, the perfect venue for those looking for a fun, social atmosphere to enjoy a quick meal, happy hour, or an afternoon of football on the large-screen televisions.

Birch Point also features six new floor plans in addition to the community’s most popular existing apartment homes.

“All of these new additions are also the result of demand and survey results,” says Ashby Ponds Director of Sales Holly Henderson. “We looked carefully at the style and design of our most popular apartment homes and developed these new floor plans based on the most sought-after design options.

Three of the new apartment floor plans, the Madison, the Potomac, and the Landon, boast utility rooms in addition to large walk-in closets. These designs meet the market demand for more storage space for clothes, luggage, holiday decorations, and even golf clubs.

“We’ve also taken note of what our community members like best about their current apartment homes,” says Henderson. “As a result, many of the new designs feature large bay windows, sunrooms, and porches.”

First introduced with the opening last year of Cherry Blossom Square, the largest of the new floor plans—the extra-large, two-bedroom, two-bath Potomac—boasts a large den and an enviable screened porch.

“It is one of my favorite parts of my new home,” says community member Joan Linthicum. “It is the perfect place to sit and relax while enjoying my beautiful new surroundings.”

Welcome wagon

The more than 1,000 people currently living at Ashby Ponds are eager to welcome their new neighbors with open arms. More than 50 community members currently volunteer their time with a variety of efforts designed to make new residents feel welcome, including partnering with new residents, inviting them to specially planned dinners, and hosting floor parties.

“I found partnering with a current resident to be very helpful,” says Jane Hausch, who moved to Ashby Ponds last year. “Even though I lived nearby and knew many people here, it was a great way to help acclimate to my new life.”

Greg Johnson looks forward to the many ways in which the new community members will enrich community life.

“One of the things I love the most about Ashby Ponds is the variety of different people, each with their own unique pasts, who live here,” he says. “I’m excited to meet our newest neighbors.”

See what the future holds

Since first announcing the construction of Birch Point last year, hundreds of people each month are scheduling appointments and joining the priority list in the hopes of reserving a future home at Ashby Ponds.

“The number of people visiting our campus eager to learn more illustrates that our new construction has come at just the right time,” says Henderson. “I encourage anyone considering a future at Ashby Ponds to schedule a visit and see firsthand the exciting changes taking place at our community each day. There’s never any pressure, just a great opportunity to discover why so many people wish to call Ashby Ponds home.”
