Ashby Ponds staff members are ready to welcome guests to the community’s two new residence buildings Birch Point and Cypress Ridge, opening this summer.

Throughout 2018, Ashby Ponds will welcome more than 200 new community members when it opens 157 new homes in Birch Point and Cypress Ridge, two brand new residence buildings. For those wishing for a sneak peek at these new apartment homes, the Erickson Living community in Ashburn, Va., is hosting a spring open house on May 31.

“This is an exciting time for our community,” says Director of Sales Holly Henderson. “This month’s open house will provide a never-before-seen glimpse into our newest buildings. Our guests will enjoy walking through a sample of our best-selling new homes, many of which are making their Ashby Ponds debut. In addition, the tour will provide the opportunity to see the new Dogwood Pub, our sixth restaurant, located in Birch Point.”

All of the newly added apartment homes are the result of demand and survey results.

“We looked carefully at the style and design of our most popular apartment homes and developed these new floor plans based on the most sought-after design options,” says Henderson.

While touring many of these homes, open house guests will also meet new community members who have recently moved into the homes at Birch Point.

“These residents have the unique position of being exactly where all of our guests once were—attending events, gathering information, and reviewing their options,” says Henderson. “As a result, they are, by far, the biggest help to anyone wishing to learn about a future at Ashby Ponds.”

Moving questions

The entire Ashby Ponds sales team will also be on hand to meet guests and answer their important questions.

“Information is so important to the decision-making process,” says Henderson. “By making themselves fully available to our guests, our sales team hopes to provide the answers to so many important questions.”

Typically, the most-often asked questions at an Ashby Ponds open house center on the details of physically moving from an existing house to an Erickson Living community.

With more than $59 million in real estate sold last year, Ashby Ponds Personal Moving Consultant Elizabeth McCumiskey will be on hand to help those guests interested in selling their house, downsizing, packing, and moving.

“I want to make sure that everyone who wants to sell their house and move to Ashby Ponds can do so easily and with as little stress as possible,” says McCumiskey, who holds a bachelor’s degree in health systems administration with a concentration in senior housing from George Mason University. For more than ten years she’s helped hundreds of people make a stress-free move to Ashby Ponds.

McCumiskey provides information on the wide variety of resources available through Erickson Realty and Moving Services, including real estate agents, downsizing experts, cleanout services, packers, and movers. Everyone she refers is vetted and has worked with Ashby Ponds before, handpicked because of the quality of services they provide.

No place like home

After touring a variety of floor plans, many open house guests are eager to learn how they can add the important touches that make a home uniquely their own.

Each of the new apartment homes opening at Ashby Ponds this year features upgraded finishes based on current market trends, such as stainless steel appliances, wood cabinets, and granite or quartz countertops.

“Yet, even with these industry-leading design features, incoming residents may wish to customize their new home to meet their own unique tastes and style,” says Custom Interiors Coordinator Susan Mendoza. “I work one-on-one with residents eager to add a wide array of special touches to their homes, like crown molding, built-in bookcases, custom closets, window treatments, painting, and lighting.”

In addition to McCumiskey and Mendoza, each member of the Ashby Ponds executive team, including Executive Director Craig Karczmer, will welcome guests and answer questions throughout the duration of the open house.

Since arriving at Ashby Ponds in 2016, Karczmer has thrown himself into day-to-day life at the community, making it his number one priority to get out and meet the residents he serves.

He’s attempted the Hula-Hoop at a Caribbean-themed happy hour, strolled through the gardens and met residents at this summer’s garden party, attended the Ashby Ponds Olympics and diversity week activities, and hosted his first few “Coffee and Conversation” meetings with community members.

“I’ve worked in senior living for over 20 years, and what always strikes me is how wonderful it is to meet the residents,” he says. “There is something special about learning about a person’s life experiences and what their dreams are as they enter a new phase of life. Trying to match up residents’ dreams with what we do as a community truly energizes me.”

Your invitation is waiting

The Ashby Ponds sales team encourages anyone interested in attending the open house to call and reserve a spot soon.

“There is something unique, intimate, and inviting when someone opens their doors to you,” says Henderson. “This will undoubtedly be our most well-attended event of the year and it is our hope that it will help our prospective residents make important decisions for their future.”
